Chapter 10 Blog

This chapter was full of information about the future of technology and how we as teachers are able to meet the literacy demands of our future students! All teachers seem to be open-minded about the idea of using technology in their classroom because it broadens students' knowledge and lets them express themselves. Chapter 10 also discusses the importance of Internet projects, blogging and digital portfolios. In this course,  I found blogging to be extremely resourceful because it lets you analyze and bring all your thoughts together and reflect on what you just read. It helps you find your own voice and experience new tools that you may be unfamiliar with. Teaching portfolios are used to document teaching practices, professional growth and student learning. Chapter 9 Blog

Chapter 9 focuses on the assessment in a literacy 2.0 environment providing knowledge for students that have the ability to be creative and authentic in their learning. I did not know that assessment is viewed in two different terms; being formative and summative. Formative focuses on the process of learning and provides information needed to adjust teaching and support learning. Summative focuses on learning at a particular point and provides information on the outcome of the learning. This was very interesting to learn because as a teacher, you are able to capture the students' skills, and strategies of new literacies! This chapter continues to discuss how assessments can be used for observation, checklists, surveys and rubrics.
