Chapter 5 Blog

For this weeks module, chapter 5 focuses on sites and selection criteria for Ebooks, such as digital websites that are offered to students to enhance their reading skills. As the internet, along with books that are enhancing as the years go on, it is important for students to be familiar, recognize and know different ways to increase their knowledge with the amount of digitalized reading that is offered to them. The online read-alouds is a major advantage of online books as students have the capability to integrate audio and video so students can capture and collect what the reading just said. It is really great that students have the privilege to stop, start and replay the story at any point in time, as it can enhance their understanding of the material, especially if they missed something. Chapter 4 Blog

Chapter 4, "Vocabulary and Fluency" included a lot of useful information that focused on vocabulary knowledge. Also, everyone has their own unique background knowledge on their experiences with books and their own vocabulary level. Students best learn through the usage of visual aids, reading and listening. When both models are presented, students strengthen their ability to learn and remember new information that is unfamiliar to them. This chapter also presents activities for young and older students. For example, reading a book to children and having them highlight vocabulary words that they know and use learning strategies, will enhance their learning ability, along with read-aloud as they can grasp more information that is being provided from the teacher. I really enjoy the activities that are mentioned in the reading, because I am also a visual learner and being able to see things up close and not in print, makes my learning a little bit easier. Chapter 3 Blog

Chapter 3 focuses on creating classroom communities and connecting with families. This chapter engages readers to understand that students need to become aware of the people that are around them and learn about the different cultures and unfamiliar family dynamics that is different from their own family. Classrooms are an important place and should be a comfortable environment for students to learn and meet new people and feel like they belong there, which is what should engage their learning and want them to come to school everyday. This chapter discusses different techniques and how students should interact with one another. Communication with each and every student is important because they are able to learn new information about one another. Sharing ideas with others and communicating with a small group in a classroom is how I personally feel interactive and understand the material more, because I grasp the material more with engaging with others.
