Chapter 2 Blog
Chapter 2, A Framework for Literacy 2.0 Thinking, was very
informative and inventive as it discussed the teaching use of technology and
the importance of it inside a classroom and the standards that include
technology.
According to the text, teachers are asked to select an
instructional process for students and consider if technology can support these
instructions and help the students' learning. Instead of printed text, this
book suggests that technology deepens and expands students' comprehension of
learning, especially when it comes to literacy. I believe that teachers should
have a lot of common knowledge when it comes to using technology as it helps the
students learn it at the same time. The different techniques of technology,
especially during this time period, are crucial for teachers to know how to
work the Internet. As a college student, I find that using the Internet and the
different websites provided by my professors are extremely resourceful and it
makes doing my work a lot easier than reading printed text. For example, this
class uses blogs and a scavenger hunt that assembles students to look up many
websites. Especially all the classes that are used on Blackboard are also
extremely beneficial, especially when I have a professor who always grades the
work on time and emails me right away if I am having trouble completing the
assigned work. "Students employ technology thoughtfully to enhance their
reading, writing, speaking, listening, and language use"(17). I agree with
this statement, yet it is professors and students who employ the use of
technology. We are both able to contribute meaning to our text through the
Internet and use text features and search tools to explain our information that
is put online.
While reading, it states,
"Understanding how technology and reading content influence and constrain
one another is essential to effective instruction and appropriate selection of
technology that promotes deep reading"(22). Many think that printed
texts for literacy is more important than using technology. I disagree with
this because yes, printed texts are visually for students to highlight the
material, but reading it online is more motivating for the student as they tend
to be more focused and concentrated on the work, rather than reading a piece of
paper. My thinking and engaging of reading and learning online have enhanced
ever since my freshman year of college. I rely on the internet as I complete
most of my homework on here, and especially the excellent feedback we get from
professors and students when we post blogs or posts on Blackboard. The internet
is an extremely beneficial learning tool, and I am thrilled to see how
technology will enhance future classrooms.
I definitely agree that teachers should have a lot of common knowledge about technology. Not only are there so many benefits of multimedia instruction, in enhancing literacy skills and comprehension, but as society is changing, we are transitioning into a world where technology will play a very large role in almost every field. It is important for students to be familiar with new technologies to ensure their future success. If teachers want to know more about certain softwares and online applications, they can consult their schools technician with questions and go from there!
