Chapter 3 Blog
Chapter 3 focuses on creating classroom communities and connecting with families. This chapter engages readers to understand that students need to become aware of the people that are around them and learn about the different cultures and unfamiliar family dynamics that is different from their own family. Classrooms are an important place and should be a comfortable environment for students to learn and meet new people and feel like they belong there, which is what should engage their learning and want them to come to school everyday.
This chapter discusses different techniques and how students should interact with one another. Communication with each and every student is important because they are able to learn new information about one another. Sharing ideas with others and communicating with a small group in a classroom is how I personally feel interactive and understand the material more, because I grasp the material more with engaging with others. In the book it mentions an activity called "King or Queen of the Day", which allows a student to wear a crown and interact with a student and let them know more about one another. This activity is excellent because it shares what the children's interests are.
While reading this chapter, I found that VoiceThread is very interesting because it allows students to add captions and audio narrations to their pictures and videos. Technology is extremely interesting compared to what it was years ago. Being able to communicate and have a discussion over the internet with other classmates is insane. My mom does an online class for school, and every Wednesday they go online at 7pm and listen to the professor talk as other students can chime in their opinions. A digital storytelling would have been amazing. Students are able to listen to other students and look at their photos, and this gives students ideas on what background each of their classmates comes from. Discussing your background story to other students is a process of thinking critically as each one will support one another. It also lets students become more engaged with the internet and technology as the more they use it, they will be more comfortable and experienced and creates a special bond with all the students. The VoiceThread is excellent and a great way to communicate with one another.

Hey Caroline! I completely agree with you about the classrooms are important places and that students need to learn about each other and their different cultures within the classroom. We as future teachers need to remember this that our classroom is basically their second home and we need to make their school experience comfortable for them. I also agree with you on Voicethread! This website lets the student interact with each other on things that they may have in common and etc.
