Chapter 5 Blog
For this weeks module, chapter 5 focuses on sites and selection criteria for Ebooks, such as digital websites that are offered to students to enhance their reading skills. As the internet, along with books that are enhancing as the years go on, it is important for students to be familiar, recognize and know different ways to increase their knowledge with the amount of digitalized reading that is offered to them.
The online read-alouds is a major advantage of online books as students have the capability to integrate audio and video so students can capture and collect what the reading just said. It is really great that students have the privilege to stop, start and replay the story at any point in time, as it can enhance their understanding of the material, especially if they missed something. Interactive story books can transform traditional print by adding graphics, sound, animation and video to create texts like a storybook, opposed to any print text. This type of reading is an excellent idea, as students should want to learn and it will make them more engaged with learning with this type of activity. If they are having fun, and enjoying the activities, then students will grasp the material better.
As I read each chapter, there are new tools/ways for teachers to enhance their students learning. I know children who I babysit that they talk to "Siri" on their phone or Ipad, and they know how to work absolutely every single technological item they have. It is mind blowing how familiar children are becoming with it, yet if they seem engaged with it outside of school, their learning might enhance in the future in the classrooms. There are many different activities for teachers to incorporate in their own classroom. Students will become curators of the unique content and ways to learn, as their interest increases as technology will help their learning now and in the future.

Hey Caroline! I agree with you on everything that you said. I agree that interactive story books can be transformed by adding graphics, sound and animation. Yes, I agree that with using this is will have the students engaged into reading something that they are interested in.
ReplyDeleteHi Caroline! I also agree with you. I absolutely agree that children use technology everyday. Although they may need to learn some new things about it, many children know all of the basics of how to navigate an iPad.
ReplyDeleteHi Caroline,
ReplyDeleteI agree with you on this topic. I think the new generation of children are unlike any other. They are growing up with iPads, iPhones, tablets, etc. and many of them know how to operate every single device! I think it is great because children who are able to use these devices are also multi tasking while doing so. Also, I love the idea of interactive reading because I think it is great with children who may have developmental delays too!
You have your own groupies!
