Chapter 10 Blog
This chapter was full of information about the future of technology and how we as teachers are able to meet the literacy demands of our future students! All teachers seem to be open-minded about the idea of using technology in their classroom because it broadens students' knowledge and lets them express themselves.
Chapter 10 also discusses the importance of Internet projects, blogging and digital portfolios. In this course, I found blogging to be extremely resourceful because it lets you analyze and bring all your thoughts together and reflect on what you just read. It helps you find your own voice and experience new tools that you may be unfamiliar with. Teaching portfolios are used to document teaching practices, professional growth and student learning. "Digital portfolios extend the possibilities for documentation and reflection through the use of multimedia, linking, and public feedback"(160). Digital portfolios and blogging are kind of the same tool and it is great for students to express themselves and for teachers and student to provide an opportunity for reflection and professional growth. Using these two digital tools in my future classroom will be a great experience for my students.
I thought that the Internet Project was a very creative idea, as I have never heard of it before. It is a collaborative learning process/experience between two or more classrooms that take over the Internet and students and teachers can interact with one another. Having students use this frequently, they will become more familiar with using a digital tool and it will engage students in wildlife, seasonal change, and things that they probably never imagined they would learn. Reading how to integrate many useful digital tools in my future classroom is eye opening because we can change the way students learn. This was a great chapter to end with and I cannot wait to have useful technological system in my future classroom to better my students' knowledge!

Hi Caroline! I absolutely agree with you about blogs and digital portfolios. They deffinetly extend possibilities with all of the different elements that can be added to them that cannot be used with paper portfolios. Lastly I agree with you on Internet projects. I had never heard of them before either but I cannot wait to try it in my classroom.
ReplyDeleteNice, and I agree with Chloe's comment.
